In 1989, [Oakland A's general manager and OBP afficianado] Billy Beane was with the Oakland Athletics and had 79 at-bats in 37 games. Here were his stats:

Does anything strike you as strange about this? Besides the fact that he didn't have any walks or get hit by a pitch?

Beane's batting average was higher than his on-base percentage. Let me repeat that, Beane's batting average was HIGHER than his on-base percentage.
