Many bloggers serve ads, and one that I've seen recently on the more popular blogs I read is for "Don't Pardon Big Tobacco". This advertisement has a picture of a teen and luridly proclaims:

2,000 kids get addicted to tobacco every day -- 1/3 of whom die early.

Um ... by definition, wouldn't 1/2 of them die early? Is this some kind of Lake Woebegone effect, where 2/3 of the population lives longer than average? Big Tobacco: We Save One-Sixth of Our Customers' Lives!
