One of John Edward's jobs as the Democratic vice-presidential nominee is to attack the opposing party's candidate for president. Edwards isn't very good at this, as evidenced by a recent attempt to slash at George Bush:

Dem vp hopeful John Edwards cut to the chase last night on ABCNEWS NIGHTLINE:

ABC'S BOB WOODRUFF: "He has avoided the kind of negative attacks that can make national news, although recently, he has stepped up his rhetoric."

SEN. JOHN EDWARDS (D-NC) (clip of a speech): "I'd say if you live in the United States of America and you vote for George Bush, you've lost your mind."

What devastating critique will Edwards employ tomorrow? "I'd say if you live in the United States of America and you vote for George Bush, you've got cooties."

Edwards reminds me of my cat Archie. Archie is a chubby, gregarious little fellow who can wrestle with my other male cat but has no idea how to slap. Another of our cats, a female named Muffin, slaps very well, so Archie is pretty much at her mercy. Sometimes when she is picking on him Archie comes to the realization that he should do something with his paws, so he stretches his front legs and waves them back and forth. This is not particularly effective.
