Athletics Nation denizen "OaktownTribesman" posted a hysterically funny Photoshop job featuring Billy Beane in the role of Mao and Moneyball as the Little Red Book. "In Billy We Trust" is the unofficial motto of Athletics Nation, and it does seem at time that A's fans are more interested in the man behind the curtain than the people who actually play the game.
But then players are fungible, and even rich teams cannot hang onto all their stars. Cities are to an extent interchangable now too, all populated by urban hipsters who despise their rural and suburban co-citizenry. Owners and general managers are unique, so why not root for them?
