blogged about the Social Security Administration's database of first names given to babies. Now someone has put this information into animated form. Just type a name and see a graph of that name's popularity over the last century. The app even does an Emacs-style incremental search, showing all names that match the letters you have typed so far.
See the short spike for "Shaquille" in the early 90's. Lament over the lost popularity of "Floyd". And wonder who in the hell would call their baby "Floy"?!
