The Declarer (Floyd McWilliams' Blog)

A couple of weeks ago I noted that Seattle cartoonist Molly Norris, founder of Everybody Draw Muhammed Day, went into hiding after Yemeni-American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki threatened her life.

Norris went into hiding on the advice of the FBI. And that's all the FBI offered -- advice. The Department of Homeland Security has a budget of $50 billion per year, but it will not lift a finger to protect an artist's right to free speech.

Gregg Easterbrook writes the TMQ column for ESPN. For the past several weeks he has made fun of mid-level government officials who travel with ostentatious, and totally unnecessary, security details. Presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett went to Seattle along with nine bodyguards. Nine! But then this is Obama's America. Those who loot the public no longer bother to pretend to be the public's servants.
