Nobel Peace laureate Barack Obama is on the attack -- this time against domestic oil companies.

“Four billion dollars of your money are going to these companies at a time when they’re making record profits and you’re paying near record prices at the pump,” the president said at a Nevada town hall. “It has to stop.”

Obama also announced a Justice Department task force that will probe whether speculators and traders are to blame for the high prices. A spokesman for Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Friday criticized the effort as an attempt to deflect attention from White House and Democratic opposition to increased drilling in the U.S.

Now all politicians are liars, all politicians are mendacious, and all politicians pander to morons. But Obama's latest attempt to blame someone else for sky-high gas prices depresses and insults me. It's a reversion to idiotic ideologies from the previous century, when, say, the government would inflate the money supply, then get huffy when businesses or workers wanted more of the devalued currency. This is the president beloved by intellectuals? If Obama believes this stuff he's an imbecile. If not, he's a nasty cynic, sowing discord for a tiny bump in the polls. Clinton was known as the "pander bear", but he had a gift of promising people things without insulting their intelligence.

(As a side note, President Obama was definitely born in this country. What American who grew up in the 1970's wouldn't want to replicate the experience of high oil prices, inflation, Middle East turmoil? Trying to be Jimmy Carter II == native born citizen, quod erat demonstrandum.)
